A little bit about us.
There's nothing new about CoderDojo. In fact, it has been around since 2011 & Dojos exist across the world. It was started in Ireland by Bill Liao and has spread like wildfire. Thanks to a grant written by Greater Lafayette Commerce, CoderDojo now has a home in Lafayette! Students are welcome to join us each month FREE OF CHARGE to learn and explore the wonders of CODING, COMPUTER SCIENCE, and STE[A]M.
CoderDojo Strike's journey began in May 2016. Kara Webb, our Hospitality Ninja and Workforce Development Director of Greater Lafayette Commerce, paired with TechPoint Foundation for Youth and Eleven Fifty Academy (Carmel, IN) to find a team of Ninja Masters and a location. Justin Klyczek, a Lafayette School Corporation teacher, was recruited after being the first classroom visited by Eleven Fifty Academy's outreach program. The venue chosen was MatchBox Co-Working Studio and, with that, our name was born. Ninja Masters Isaac, Linus, and Kelli were recruited soon after and our first Dojo took place in August 2016. Since then, we've tried to get bigger and better. At each of our sessions, we offer our ninja's a wide variety of activities to choose from. We average around 25 students per session, most of which are under 13 years of age.
In the Summer of '17, we welcomed a new Ninja Master, Jasmine from Imagination Station. We have actually paired with Imagination Station and are excited to announce Lafayette's new dojo- CoderDojo Imagine. It will open in early '18 and will take place at the Imagination Station.
Some of the activities we have featured in our meet-ups include:
We'd love to get your feedback on what we are doing well, what we can improve upon, and if you have any ideas for activities. You can email us at [email protected] and find us on Facebook and Twitter.
